Immediately after starting school at South Dakota State University in 2004 I joined the campus newspaper: the Collegian. Just like in high school, I started as a reporter and worked my way into editorial roles: News Editor and then Dakota & World editor.

I spent several Monday nights working on page designs in the basement of the Student Union, where our small, window-less office was located. Designing the pages was one of my favorite parts of my experience at SDSU and while working on the Collegian. I enjoyed trying to fit each element onto the page in a eye-catching way.
