After I graduated college I was expecting to have a job in print news. Instead I took a little detour and started working as a production assistant at KDLT News, the NBC affiliate in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. One thing lead to another and eventually I was working as a reporter. It was a great experience that allowed me to combine my writing and video editing skills.
Since I was usually working as a one-man-band, I conducted the interviews, shot the video, wrote the story and put it all together into a one-to-two minute video package.
I covered a variety of stories as a reporter from grand openings, charity events and city council meetings to flooding, funerals and rape trials. I've uploaded some of my best work onto my YouTube channel. Here are a few of them:
